Let's Catch Up
Hello, hello!
Been a while! Don't worry, I'm still working on the game, but there's been no "updates" and I'll explain why.
The short version, the game won't get updated until post next-fest (which is on October). There's a couple reasons for this:
1) The game as it is, right now, is in a spot I'm happy with. There's a couple things I'd like to improve, but I've been working on the game and there's quite a few updates "queued" for lack of a better term that I'd have to lock off or rip out to ensure stability. That's a lot of effort for something I don't think is worth making the tutorial speed a little more lenient, as an example.
2) The things I'm due to add - 1 enemy, 1 hidden boss, a BUNCH of secrets and (possibly, still working on it) and endless mode, are all things that can break pretty much everything in terms of the replay system, balance, points, and so on. I don't want to change that until post next-fest.
It's been a bit of time, and I thought it right to just have a quick update about what's going on at the moment considering updates were very frequent previously. Don't worry, the game didn't die - it's actually almost "done" so to speak!
So When's The Next Update?
It'll likely be quite a bit after next-fest, maybe around December, because I'll be taking people's critique and suggestions, and I don't know if that might "overwrite" (for lack of another term) what my current plans are. As it is right now, the plan is for the updates to come roughly every 2 months after next-fest ends.
So that's:
December Update: Post Next-Fest Fixes/Changes
February Update: The New Enemy
April Update: The Hidden Boss
June Update: Endless Mode
August: Round Up of Fixes, Polish and (hopefully) full release!
So, with the possibility it might change to be sooner or later, the game should be done in about a year's time. Quite a while to go!
Some Quick Bits
I've been working quite a bit on marketing the game, it's free so it's not to see financial return, but rather just to fill out the leaderboard some. It's been going well! Leaderboard I think is sitting at roughly 130~ entrants(?) and is still going up. A couple things I've done recently include:
Got the game listed on Playtester.
Had a lovely chat with Hyacsho (go check 'em out) who played the game on stream.
Had a couple different conversations with content creators, who had a few questions for me with the game.
Had several interested parties through Keymailer play the game and make some content for it (thanks everyone!)
It's been good, I think once all this is done I'll likely return to making games here and there without pushing marketing for them - not because it's been that bad, but rather because, truth be told, it does take a LOT of time away from development, and development is the bit I'd like to be doing. I'll still likely pop games up for people to play, but not really push them around places. After all, nothing to be gained from my end on it - I've just enjoyed seeing people go from having no idea what to do, to figuring out the game, to getting better at it. It's rewarding from my side.
Cheers for sticking - I'll see you around Christmas!
