An Incremental Bloodsports Management Game
What is Bloodworks?
Bloodworks is the next project I'm doing that's a complete swap in tone and style from Mercworks. I liked the idea of incremental games, and a while back I'd done some work with creating simulations, but I'd never really got that far in it because I was using gamemaker at the time and fuck me gamemaker sucks utter shit.
This is a tangent - anyway, I wanted to make an incremental game, and thought I'd put a bit of Dwarf Fortress inspired sim-combat into it, to give an emergent gameplay so you've got something to do while you idle, instead of just swathes of waiting for your next upgrade.
What Do I Do?
Simple really! You'll start off with low funds, just enough to get two wannabe pit legends from your terminal. You'll pit em against each other for the satisfaction of the masses, and they'll die for the sake of your wallet's growth.
Take that cash, hop back on The Black Book and hire another fighter. Repeat, set as many fights as you can afford, maybe watch a few and see what makes a good fight. Find patterns in the best methods to make cash - what the crowd like to see, what gets 'em going.
Get known, make friends with companies that will happily sell you increasing qualities of fighters, that can put on a better show. Make more money, buy new stadiums with interesting new effects that might change how a fight ends up going, or maybe rake in a little extra cash. Make MORE money and start rigging fights with a little bit of under-the-table-tomfoolery to grow your empire into the biggest bloodsports scheme around.
Then sell it all, take your prestige, get some more unlocks and do it again, a little different this time.
What's in it?
Right now, it's in development. But there are currently:
- Four races, each with their own innate skills and behaviours.
- Four classes, each with weapon preferences and fight styles that influence the simulations.
- 5 fighter rarities, from Runts to Freaks that impact the effectiveness of a given fighter.
- An expanding list of arenas that change how your fighters die. Or live. Or somewhere inbetween.
- Automation of fight setting and fighter hiring, so you can focus on the interesting little emergent stories that come from your personally tended matches without worrying about bankroll.
- Perks and upgrades, to snowball out your riches faster and faster. NUMBER MUST GO UP!
The Future?
Plans change frequently with these projects, so I can't tell you what will be. Only what is. I'll upload logs as I change things. A changelog if you will. Bet nobody's thought of that before. Or maybe I won't. Dunno I might just yap for the love of the game.
